Palmi in fermento per Gino Vannelli
Lo “Slow Love Tour” prende le mosse dal suo ultimo album intriso d’amore
Grande evento musicale allo stadio comunale di Palmi il 14 Agosto prossimo. Ad esibirsi nell’unico concerto per il sud, è il grande artista italo-americano Gino Vannelli . La carriera di Vannelli comincia nelle provincie canadesi insieme al fratello Joe ,e alla loro band ,*Gino Vannelli and Good Friends,*la coppia si diresse a Los Angeles con un demo tape in mano, in cerca di fama e fortuna . Dopo essere stati rifiutati da un certo numero di etichette ,Vannelli fu finalmente scoperto dal cofondatore della A&M, Herb Alpert.<<In preda alla disperazione-ricordava Vannelli-dopo esserci fermati in una chiesa e immaginando fosse quello il capolinea, io ebbi un’idea.Aspettai alla porta della A&M Records la mattina seguente con la mia chitarra.Dopo quattro ore ,Herb Alpert arrivò camminando attraverso lo studio dal suo ufficio,ed io quasi gli saltai addosso.Ovviamente lui era scioccato.La guardia arrivò correndo dietro di me .Herb vide quel luccichio nei miei occhi e capì veramente perchè ero lì,e mi lasciò suonare qualche mia canzone .Mentre io cantavo,lui rideva ,quando finii egli disse “Ok facciamolo,ma ad una condizione:che a produrre il tuo primo album sia io”. Il giorno dopo tornai a casa a Montreal con un contratto discografico>>.Le sue prime registrazioni includono Crazy life, e poi Powerful People, con il singolo People gotta move . Oltre a guadagnarsi la prima di tante nominations ai Grammy Awards, Vannelli utilizzò Powerful People anche per introdurre gli ascoltatori alle innovative tessiture sonore delle appena inventate tastiere sintetizzate.Vannelli, insieme con i fratelli Joe e Ross, si guadagnò da questo momento cinque Juno’s Awards come miglior artista maschile canadese,Produttore e Ingegnere del suono dell’anno.Gino ricevette inoltre un’altra nomination ai Grammy per la migliore prestazione Pop. Il 1981 annunciò il più avventuroso album di Vannelli fino ad oggi,”*Nightwalker” *col suo singolo incredibilmente popolare, “Living Inside Myself“(ed una quarta nomination ai Grammy). Gino proseguì con il disco di platino *Black Cars *a metà degli anni ’80,e poi con Big Dreamers Never Sleep. Vannelli crede nel vivere e nell’esprimere la vita nel suo aspetto completo.<< Mi diverto a fare musica e a scrivere testi .Essere secretivo e misterioso non è nella mia natura.Non fingo di essere sulla cima di una montagna e vedere il mondo da dove l’aria è rarefatta . Ma faccio molto per avere una migliore prospettiva degli affari,di me stesso e del mondo dopo così tanti anni passati in tutto ciò>>.
Un Gran Maestro di Romanticismo
Lungo la sua carriera , Vannelli ha esplorato nuovi modi di espressioni ,dal suo prorompente lavoro coi sintetizzatori negli anni ’70 al suo lavoro attuale,*Slow Love, *che segna un nuovo picco nell’evoluzione del cantante . Si tratta di un disco di canzoni d’amore memorabili che mettono in mostra il suo straordinario musicale così bene come la sua opera di melodie e testi.Riempito con grandi intrecci e melodie ,tenere ballate e tracce guidate dal groove,*Slow Love *consacra Vannelli come un cantautore di punta degli anni ’90. Maestro di romanticismo ,dramma e immaginazione scritta ,Vannelli infonde questi temi con le potenti e sensuali prestazioni vocali per le quali è rinomato.*Slow Love *mostra anche l’ironico senso dell’umorismo di Vannelli e il messaggio contro la manipolazione genetica di Alive by science,ed il sassofono funky e bassissimo di Down with Love.Il risultato è uno dei dischi più belli di Vannelli in una carriera già leggendaria.

The “Slow Love Tour” kicks off with his latest love-filled album
A major musical event will take place at the Palmi Municipal Stadium on August 14th. Performing in the only concert in the South will be the great Italian-American artist Gino Vannelli. Vannelli’s career began in the Canadian provinces with his brother Joe and their band, Gino Vannelli and Good Friends. The pair headed to Los Angeles with a demo tape in hand, seeking fame and fortune. After being rejected by a number of labels, Vannelli was finally discovered by A&M co-founder Herb Alpert. “In desperation,” Vannelli recalled, “after stopping at a church and figuring that was the end of the line, I had an idea. I waited at the door of A&M Records the next morning with my guitar. After four hours, Herb Alpert came walking across the studio from his office, and I almost jumped on him. Obviously, he was shocked. The guard came running after me. Herb saw that glint in my eye and really understood why I was there, and he let me play a few of my songs. As I sang, he laughed, and when I finished, he said, ‘Okay, let’s do it, but on one condition: that I produce your first album.’ The next day I returned home to Montreal with a recording contract .” His early recordings included Crazy Life , and then Powerful People , with the single “People Gotta Move.” In addition to earning the first of many Grammy nominations, Vannelli also used Powerful People to introduce listeners to the innovative sonic textures of the newly invented synthesized keyboards. Vannelli, along with brothers Joe and Ross, went on to earn five Juno Awards for Best Canadian Male Artist, Producer of the Year, and Recording Engineer of the Year. Gino also received another Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance. 1981 heralded Vannelli’s most adventurous album to date, “*Nightwalker,” *featuring its incredibly popular single, “Living Inside Myself” (and a fourth Grammy nomination). Gino followed up with the platinum-selling Black Cars in the mid-1980s, and then with Big Dreamers Never Sleep . Vannelli believes in living and expressing life to its fullest. “I enjoy making music and writing lyrics. Being secretive and mysterious is not in my nature. I don’t pretend to be on top of a mountain and seeing the world from where the air is thin. But I do a lot to get a better perspective on the business, myself and the world after so many years of doing all this.”
A Grand Master of Romanticism
Throughout his career, Vannelli has explored new modes of expression, from his explosive synthesizer work in the 1970s to his current effort, *Slow Love, *which marks a new peak in the singer’s evolution. It is a record of memorable love songs that showcase his extraordinary musicianship as well as his melodic and lyrical oeuvre. Filled with grand plots and melodies, tender ballads and groove-driven tracks, Slow Love cements Vannelli as a leading songwriter of the 1990s. A master of romance, drama and written imagination, Vannelli infuses these themes with the powerful, sensual vocal performances for which he is renowned.
